14th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale May 12, 2012

The 14th annual Model Railroad Garage sale is coming up fast. Mark May 12th on your calendar as you will not want to miss this wonderful event. It is a terrific way for those just starting in the hobby to find some items, meet others in the hobby, gain ideas, and share in discussions. Many have also found that sought after treasure on someone’s table that was just what they needed to bring some life to their own layout.

This event is hosted FREE of charge for both vendors and customers. It is put on as a modellers-for-modellers day to help spread the word that Model Railroading is a fun and fulfilling hobby for all ages. While this event only lasts 4 hours, many hours are spent on the planning and set up of the event. As long as the interest to attend is strong we will continue to put this event on. It runs from 8am - noon with vendors allowed to start setting up as early as 6:30am.

Many have already signed up to be vendors, and spaces are filling up quickly. We will be taking reservations for vendors until May 5th, so if you are wishing to attend this year as a vendor please let us know ASAP.

Also this year, we will again be having the community table. For those that are not familiar with how the table works, it is a way for people to bring just a few things and leave them for sale at the event. If you wish to bring items for the community table we ask that they be brought in to the store no later than May 5th to have them tagged and set up for the sale. All items and money from the items sold are to be picked up by the end of May. If you wish more info on putting items on the table please feel free to contact me.

Get out the pen and circle May 12th on your calendars and come on out to share in the fun and excitement of the 14th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale.

Please note, the donations received from each year’s event are put back into improving the next year’s event. If you have ideas that you would like to see put into place for upcoming events please share them with us—we want to continue improving this event to ensure it remains something you want to attend and don’t want to miss.

2012 In Full Swing

As many may have noticed this is the first newsletter in while.  The end of 2011 was busy and before we knew it we were full steam ahead into 2012.  With 9 train shows already behind us and our event just weeks away we have had little time to get the newsletter out. 

As we mention in the newsletter there have been many changes in stock lines, shortages etc. that have also been keeping me busy.  I have been working behind the scenes on the new system for the website catalogue which once it is complete is going to make the on-line catalogue much easier to update and keep updated.  This work will continue for the next month or so.

I have been busy planning and organizing the 14th annual model railroad garage sale, I always seem to find more things each year that need to be done to make the event a success.  I would like to thank all of those that have currently helped with getting flyers to different events and just spreading the word.  This is an event that I am committed to host every year as long as the interest is there for it.

With the early summer-like weather in March ice cream also returned about a month and a half early.  So we are now up and running with that as well.

I was not aware of how many people are actually reading this little newsletter until the disappearance of it for the last four months started to have people both emailing and calling me to see if they had missed it somehow.  I am going to try to keep it a little more regular starting after the May show.  So this issue will not have a few of the usual articles, but they will be back in the next newsletter.

Hunter Line and Mt Albert Lumber Products

Many have asked for the following products to be included in the lines that we stock at the store.  The first order of these products have arrived last week and are now on the shelves for sale.  All in-stock items will be added into the on-line catalogue shortly.  If you find yourself wanting a current in-stock list of these items in the meantime feel free to send me an email and I can send you a list.

Atlas Announces a Track Shortage

Some of you may be aware that Atlas is going through some changes at the moment and with these changes there is a track shortage.  We managed to stockpile some of it before the shortage became too wide spread, but depending on how long the shortage may last we might run out of some track items.  If your need for track is in the immediate future you may want to consider stopping in soon while our stock is still at a good level.  As we run out we will be more than happy to take orders and fill them as soon as track once again is available.  Keep in mind this shortage is across the entire industry, and we are all hoping it will be a short one.

Exact Rail No More

While last year at this time we were announcing the exciting new addition of this line to our store, it is much different a year later.  As of April 30, 2012, Exact Rail will no longer have dealers selling their products.  So with the disappearance of dealers we will no longer be able to bring in this product for you.  We are currently asking anyone with suggestions for any other new products that you may want to see come into the store.  We will be replacing it with something else new and exciting, we are just not sure what it is at this very moment.

Holiday Open House and Sale

On December 10 & 11, 2011 we will be having an open house and sale. Over the last few months we have had lots of estate items come in and what better time to offer them up than just before Christmas. All the extra product will be displayed over in one bay of the garage next door, as there is too much stuff on hand to get it all in the store.

We will also be offering in-store specials and a Holiday draw as well. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate and goodies are also going to be available during this time.

Take a moment on one of these two special days to slip out, check out the extra stock from the estates, check out the sales, and have a treat.

As a reminder the store hours on the weekend are:

Saturday 9am - 6pm

Sunday 10am - 5pm

So mark next weekend on your calendars and come and enjoy the savings just in time for the holidays.

Grey Central Railway Open House Dec 4, 2011

With the holiday season come the thoughts of the holiday trains. The Grey Central Railway is featuring an open house this Sunday, December 4, 2011 at their club layout. Come and see what model railroading is all about, or just come to watch the trains in action.

The open house is at:

    Five minutes east of Holland Centre.

Admission is by donation and the event runs from 1pm to 5pm.  This is a great event to spend some family time together. The Grey Central Club hopes to see you there.

Great Holiday Gift Ideas

We have many new items in stock for the holiday season including train sets for both the young and the young-at-heart. This season we have many of the different Thomas the Tank electric train sets to choose from to make the Thomas-lover in your life smile.

We also have custom-built train sets for those that want to get into the hobby with a good quality modellers set. They are available this year in both steam and diesel sets. Come in and check them out.  If there isn’t one built that you like we will help you custom build the one that suits your needs.

We offer many stocking stuffers and gift cards as well for those hard-to-buy-fors on your list.  If you have your eye on something be sure to send an email to carol@countylinecaboose.ca indicating what you would like so that when people come in looking for things to buy for you they can be directed to those items.

Grey Central Railway Open House and Train Show this Weekend

With the onset of fall comes the train shows and this weekend there is one close to all of our customers that are in the Grey/Bruce Area.  The Grey Central Railway Club will be hosting their Annual Open House and Train show this Saturday September 17, 201 from 10am to 4pm.  It is located in the basement of Participation Lodge five minutes east of Holland Centre. 

For those that do not want to drive down to the cities where the majority of the shows are happening this is a great way to take in a train show close to home.

This event will feature the Grey Central Railway Layout operating, a few additional layouts that are usually brought in for the event, and a selection of vendors selling railway items and supplies.

So come on out and support a local train show.
