Holiday Open House—This Weekend

Hard to believe it but we are starting into the end of 2015 already.   Ice cream has been put away for another year and the train side is up into full swing.  Over the last weekend we have prepared the caboose for a Holiday Open House. 

Mark the date on the calendar and come on out for some holiday fun and treats.  Please note that the store will not open at the regular 9am, but rather one hour later to help us prepare for the event.

Dates and Times:

Saturday, November 21, 2015  10am to 5pm
Sunday, November 22, 2015  10am to 3pm

Events:

• Tour the caboose done up for the holidays featuring a couple running trains (Christmas themed) including Thomas the Tank and Friends
• Holiday treats and hot drinks
• Some new and remaining consignment items will be put out for sale in the caboose
• In-store specials and draw
• Special order deal by one of our manufacturers (there will be 25% off all orders placed for this manufacturer which will be announced on our Facebook page on Wednesday night in order to allow you to prepare your list)

This is a great event to not only put you in the Holiday spirit but also to kick start your train season with some deals.

Grey Central Christmas Open House

This is a great family event once again hosted by the Grey Central Railway Club.  They will once again open their doors on Sunday December 6, 2015 from 1pm to 4pm. Come out and see their layout in action.  Thomas the Tank will be running for all the little engineers in attendance as well.  So mark the date on your calendar, and take in an afternoon of trains.

Grey Central Railway Open House & Train Show This Saturday

With the onset of fall comes the train shows and this weekend there is one close to all of our customers that are in the Grey/Bruce Area. The Grey Central Railway Club will be hosting their Annual Open House and Train Show this Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 10am to 4pm. It is located at the Participation Lodge five minutes east of Holland Centre.

For those that do not want to drive down to the cities where the majority of the shows are happening this is a great way to take in a train show close to home.

This event will feature the Grey Central Railway Layout operating, a few additional layouts are usually brought in for the event, and a selection of vendors selling railway items and supplies.

So come on out and support a local train show.

Prices are Rising

With the Canadian dollar being weaker than we have enjoyed over the last few years, product that is coming in is starting to reflect that as well.  We do not change the prices of our existing inventory to match increasing prices as they are received.  We maintain the price that the product had when it came in.  As a result with the on-line catalogue now up and running (almost 75% of the way finished) the prices on the site are updated to reflect the new stock price coming in, but prices that you see in the store on some of the items may be lower until those items are sold.  Now is the time to take advantage of the stock that is still at the lower price.

Summer is Fading Away

I know this weekend it felt like fall had moved right on in.  Although the weatherman is saying we are to get some warm weather still, the time has come for us to start back to our fall hours. 

From now until the end of September the following hours are in place, however if the temperatures are cold or raining we will reduce the hours and close at 6:00pm.

• Saturday:  9:00am to 8:00pm
• Sunday:  10:00am to 8:00pm

As we get closer to fall the hours will slightly change to closing a little earlier, check the website, Facebook, or Google+ for updated hours anytime.

Did you know the store does not need to be open to get your product.  As a reminder we offer pickup in the Kitchener/Waterloo area, appointments during the week for the store (you need to set this up at least a day in advance of when you are planning on being there) and we are always more than happy to ship product your way.

Train Show Locations

Summer is Here—Extended Hours are Back

Well at long last summer is here and with that comes the extended hours.  We are now open the following until after the September Labour Day Weekend:

Friday:  12:00pm to 9:00pm

Saturday:  9:00am to 9:00pm

Sunday:  10:00am to 8:30pm

Please note that if the weather is heavy rain or cold temperatures we will close early, if in doubt please call to confirm. 

We still continue to do on-line sales while the website is under construction. Many have noticed that stock is changing, but while this is happening not all sections have been completed yet.  If there is something that you are looking for and can’t find, don’t give up, send us a quick email and we can confirm if the stock is there and just not on line yet.

On another note, with ice cream in full swing we wanted to mention that in addition to serving you your favourite ice cream treat, we are now also serving Frozen Yogurt! Why not try out a delicious treat made with Real Fruit after dropping in for your train supplies.

17th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale a Success

This year marked the 17th year that we have organized and hosted the Model Railroad garage sale.  Out of 17 years I would say that this had to be the best event ever.  So many things came together to make this event great.

First, the weather co-operated and gave us a nice warm sunny day (this is the first event I have ever done in shorts). 

Second, the price of gas was down a little more than prior years and we saw buyers coming from a larger area than in the past.

I would like to thank all the vendors that participated, and all those that came to support the event.  This event is put on free of charge and will continue to be hosted as long as the interest is there.  This year we had almost 300 feet of vendor table, and close to three hundred in attendance.  People came at a steady pace this year spreading out nicely making the show feel busy all the way through. Following the event we had many comment with a thank you for hosting it which is what the purpose is, so thank you to all that took the time to comment.  We received some nice ideas for future events, and we will try our best to add these suggestions over the next couple events.  Also for those that did not know what the donation jar was for, it takes all the donations raised that day and adds them back into the event to make it better next year.  When the event first started it was a long way from what it looks like today.  The first few were barrels with ply wood as tables, and if I remember right it was only a bay-and-a-bit large; it has developed a good deal since that first event.
