Holiday Open House and Sale

On December 10 & 11, 2011 we will be having an open house and sale. Over the last few months we have had lots of estate items come in and what better time to offer them up than just before Christmas. All the extra product will be displayed over in one bay of the garage next door, as there is too much stuff on hand to get it all in the store.

We will also be offering in-store specials and a Holiday draw as well. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate and goodies are also going to be available during this time.

Take a moment on one of these two special days to slip out, check out the extra stock from the estates, check out the sales, and have a treat.

As a reminder the store hours on the weekend are:

Saturday 9am - 6pm

Sunday 10am - 5pm

So mark next weekend on your calendars and come and enjoy the savings just in time for the holidays.

Grey Central Railway Open House Dec 4, 2011

With the holiday season come the thoughts of the holiday trains. The Grey Central Railway is featuring an open house this Sunday, December 4, 2011 at their club layout. Come and see what model railroading is all about, or just come to watch the trains in action.

The open house is at:

Five minutes east of Holland Centre.

Admission is by donation and the event runs from 1pm to 5pm. This is a great event to spend some family time together. The Grey Central Club hopes to see you there.

We have many new items in stock for the holiday season including train sets for both the young and the young-at-heart. This season we have many of the different Thomas the Tank electric train sets to choose from to make the Thomas-lover in your life smile.

We also have custom-built train sets for those that want to get into the hobby with a good quality modellers set. They are available this year in both steam and diesel sets. Come in and check them out. If there isn’t one built that you like we will help you custom build the one that suits your needs.

We offer many stocking stuffers and gift cards as well for those hard-to-buy-fors on your list. If you have your eye on something be sure to send an email to carol@countylinecaboose.ca indicating what you would like so that when people come in looking for things to buy for you they can be directed to those items.

Grey Central Railway Open House and Train Show this Weekend

With the onset of fall comes the train shows and this weekend there is one close to all of our customers that are in the Grey/Bruce Area. The Grey Central Railway Club will be hosting their Annual Open House and Train show this Saturday September 17, 201 from 10am to 4pm. It is located in the basement of Participation Lodge five minutes east of Holland Centre.

For those that do not want to drive down to the cities where the majority of the shows are happening this is a great way to take in a train show close to home.

This event will feature the Grey Central Railway Layout operating, a few additional layouts that are usually brought in for the event, and a selection of vendors selling railway items and supplies.

So come on out and support a local train show.

13th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale May 14th

The 13th annual Model Railroad Garage sale is coming up fast. Mark May 14th on your calendar as you will not want to miss this wonderful event. It is a terrific way for those just starting in the hobby to find some items, meet others in the hobby, gain ideas, and share in discussions. Many have also found that sought after treasure on someone’s table that was just what they needed to bring some life to their own layout.

This event is hosted FREE of charge for both vendors and customers. It is put on as a modellers-for-modellers day to help spread the word that Model Railroading is a fun and fulfilling hobby for all ages. While this event only lasts 4 hours, many hours are spent on the planning and set up of the event. As long as the interest to attend is strong we will continue to put this event on.

Many have already signed up to be vendors, and spaces are filling up quickly. We will be taking reservations for vendors until May 7th, so if you are wishing to attend this year as a vendor please let us know ASAP.

Also this year, we will again be having the community table. For those that are not familiar with how the table works, it is a way for people to bring just a few things and leave them for sale at the event. If you wish to bring items for the community table we ask that they be brought in to the store no later than May 7th to have them tagged and set up for the sale. All items and money from the items sold is to be picked up by the end of May. If you wish more info on putting items on the table please feel free to contact me.

Get out the pen and circle May 14th on your calendars and come on out to share in the fun and excitement of the 13th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale.

Please note, the donations received from each year’s event are put back into improving the next year’s event. If you have ideas that you would like to see put into place for upcoming events please share them with us—we want to continue improving this event to ensure it remains something you want to attend and don’t want to miss.

Spring Has Sprung

This last weekend was a good indicator that spring is hopefully coming to stay. With the coming of the spring temperatures so too will come the ice cream side of our operations once again. As in the past the hours for both the ice cream and train sides will be extended. Be sure to watch our site for updated hours as spring turns into summer.

Currently, as a reminder, our hours are as follows:

Saturday 9:00am – 6:00pm

Sunday 10:00am – 5:00pm

As always those customers from the KW area are more than welcome to pick items up in Waterloo. Please contact Carol for details if this is a better way for you to get your product.

When contacting us by phone, the store number is best on the weekends—(519) 364-1390. During the week, it is best to contact Carol by cell—(519) 807-2345. There is voice mail on it as well so if there is no answer please leave a message. This number is checked for messages several times during the day.

Summer is Gone and Fall is Coming

Wow, the summer went by fast. One minute I was busy planning for the 13th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale that we host in the spring, and the next thing I knew, train show season has started up again and fall is right around the corner.

While I have not written a newsletter since the spring, we have been busy behind the scenes all summer changing and upgrading things to make the process easier and more informative. Now that much of the behind-the-scenes work is complete, I can once again start back with the newsletters.

Summer brought some nice temperatures which kept us good and busy on the ice cream side. With the seasons changing that side will be wrapping up and I will have more time to concentrate on the trains once again.

It is hard to believe that this is the 15th year in business already. Time sure flies by. Later this fall there will be a customer appreciation, open house event—stay tuned to the newsletter for details.

This weekend the Grey Central Railway Club will be hosting their Annual Open House and Train Show. For those around the area, this is a great event to take in. The details for the show are listed in our show section at the end of this newsletter publication.

If you are new to the hobby and would like to see a layout in action that has been built by different people all working together, this is a great event for you. The guys from the club are more than happy to show off their layout and provide insight into the hobby.

For those of you that are local to the train store, this is one of the few train show events that is rather close by. So make a day of it, and take in a train show.

Consignment Area Growing

We currently have a lot of interesting items in the consignment area. Things are coming and going all the time through this area. We currently have a bunch of new in-the-box HO structure kits as well as a good selection of steam locomotives. Come on in and check it out, you may find that one thing you have been looking for.

Searching for an item that is discontinued? If so, send us your wish list. When consignment items are brought in we review the wish list we have for people first before the items are placed on the shelf. We have been able to match many an item with a new owner. We can’t guarantee it will show up, but it never hurts to let us know. You can submit all requests through the feedback page. Please include the item number and the product description that you are searching for, this helps us match things better if the time comes.

While we try to keep the area updated on-line it has been a little while since we have had the time to update this area. Plans are underway to revise and update this list in the next couple of weeks. Feel free to check it out on-line if you can’t make it into the store, you may be surprised what you find there

Spring has Sprung

Spring is finally here and the nice weather is starting to burst forth. It has been a busy winter and the newsletter was one of the things I just had a hard time getting around to. I have finally had the chance to sit down and write one to keep us all in touch and aware of the new items that have both arrived and are planned to arrive in the near future.

Planning is fully under way for the 12th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale this year. Be sure to take a moment and read about this great event that is coming up fast.

As always if there is a comment or suggestion that you have for the newsletter please forward it along, I am always glad to hear how you would like it changed or improved.

Also, as spring turns into summer, a reminder that our hours start to extend on the weekends. Hours will continue to be updated here on the site.

12th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale May 15th

Believe it or not the 12th annual Model Railroader Garage sale is just a little less than a month away. Get that date marked on your calendar as you will not want to miss this terrific event. Many have already signed up to be vendors, and spaces are filling up quickly. We will be taking reservations for vendors until May 7th, so if you are wishing to attend this year as a vendor please let us know ASAP. As mentioned in previous years this is a terrific way for those just starting in the hobby to find some items, meet others in the hobby, gain ideas and share in discussions. Many have also found that sought after treasure on someone’s table that was the item that they just needed to bring some life to their own layout.

Again this year we will be having the community table. For those that are not familiar with how the table works is it is a way for people to bring just a few things and leave them for sale at the event. If you wish to bring things for the community table we ask that they be brought in to the store no later than May 8th to have them tagged and set up for the sale. All items and money from the items sold is to be picked up by the end of May. If you wish more info on putting items on the table please feel free to contact us.

Last year the weather was a little on the wet side and we are really hoping that Mother Nature will shine some sun on us for this year’s event. Despite the rain last year’s event was well attended and we hope to have this year’s be even better.

This event is hosted FREE of charge for both vendors and those that attend. It is put on as a modellers-for-modellers day, to help spread the word that Model Railroading is a fun and fulfilling hobby for all ages. While this event only lasts 4 hours, many hours are spent on the planning and set up of the event. As long as the interest to attend is strong we will continue to put this event on.

Get out the pen and circle May 15th on your calendars and come on out to share in the fun and excitement of the 12th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale.

Please note, the donations received from each year’s event are put back into improving the next year’s event. In the past this money has been used to purchase the outdoor canopy used last year and many folding tables. If you have ideas that you would like to see put into place for upcoming events please share them with us—we want to make this an event you want to attend and don’t want to miss.

As I write this newsletter it is hard to believe that in under a month 2009 will be another year gone by. Time has really flown by this year, and it is hard to believe that 2010 is just around the corner.

I would like to take this time to wish everyone the very best of the holiday season with your family and friends.

Hours Reminder

As the ice cream came to a close, we returned back to our winter hours of operation. If needing to contact us by phone during the week it is best to call my cell at 519-807-2345. The store number (519) 364-1390 is still the best way to contact us during the weekend store hours.

Our winter hours are as follows:

Saturday: 9:00am - 6:00pm (December 5th only we will be closing at 4:00pm)

Sunday: 10:00am - 5:00pm

As a reminder, email can be sent at any time and is usually checked daily. So if you wish something special ordered and do not want to wait until the weekend to submit it, don’t--send it in an email and it will speed up the process. Our email address is carol@countylinecaboose.ca

We also continue to do mail order so if you are a distance from the store you can still shop with us. Orders are shipped with Canada Post to keep costs low, and can make it to most destinations in good time.

12th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale Date Set

Planning and preparation is currently underway for the 12th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale. The date of the 2010 event is Saturday, May 15. So mark the date on the calendar early to avoid disappointment. More details will follow as event plans are brought together. If you know already that you wish be a vendor, please drop us a quick email so your space can be reserved. We are also looking for volunteers for the day to help the event run smoothly. If you think you can assist us please let us know.

Athearn Discontinues the Beloved Blue Box Line

Athearn recently announced that they are ceasing the production of their Blue Box line immediately. They have decided to focus more on the Ready To Run line in the future. While we still have some stock, once these kits are gone we will not be able to order any more. For a complete listing of the ones that we still have in stock please check out the on-line catalogue.

So what does that mean for the modeller that likes to build the kits over having the ready-to-run product? Well to fill the gap left by Athearn we will be stocking more Accurail car kits starting immediately.

We are also ordering in more of the Branchline Yard Master series kits for those that have been asking about us expanding that line.

While these are some of the items we are bringing in as standard stock to fill the gap left by the Blue Box line there are many other kits out there made by others that may have a high level of difficulty and are ordered in as well. Some of these are the George Taylor kits, Sylvan and Branchline Blueprint Trains.

Grey Central Railway Club Christmas Open House

It is this time of year that people think more of trains than any other time-the train running under the Christmas Tree, or the train display in the front window of one of the stores you may pass. Trains are a magical thing at this time of year, and seeing them run brings joy to many.

The Grey Central Railway Club is opening up their layout to the public on Sunday, December 13, 2009 from Noon to 5:00pm. Come see their layout in action, and talk to members of the group while you are there as they share their hobby with you. Admission is by donation and all are welcome. For the little train lovers Thomas The Tank Engine will be making a visit on the layout as well. This is a great holiday afternoon activity that can be shared by the whole family. Come experience the magic of the holidays through a train ride on the Grey Central.

A big thank you to the Saugeen Modellers who have donated their demonstration layout to be used in the store and to show off their love of the hobby. If you have not been in for while this is something you are going to have to stop in to see. Our current layout that was here for some time continues to be a work in progress, so it is nice to have a finished one to show off.

The Saugeen Modellers meet once a month and are always looking for new members to share the hobby with. If you are new to the hobby and would like to take in a meeting, please drop us a quick email and we will pass along their contact information. If you are new to the hobby, or are an experienced modeler this group may be just the right fit for you to share your knowledge with others or gain some along the way.

The Saugeen Modellers are located in Hanover and surrounding area.

Summer is Fading to Fall

Well it has been a busy summer, but now with fall coming it is time for me to get back to doing the newsletters more on a monthly basis. I hope everyone had a great summer despite the poor weather and temperature for the majority of it.

For those that dropped by during the summer you may have found us busy redoing the front of the caboose. Yes there are 126 boards on the front alone and they are now replaced and the caboose is looking all new from the front side. While it looks a little off right now, plans are in the works to have the CN logo returned and the caboose number added either later this fall or early into the spring of 2010 depending on the weather.

With the onset of fall approaching it is time for all of us to start thinking of all the time during the winter months that we will have to work on our hobby. This may be a rather short newsletter as I try to get things caught up, more of the new and coming items will be covered in the October newsletter, I promise.

Enjoy the read, and as always I welcome all comments and suggestions on improving our little Tail End Publication.

For those of you that are local to the Grey-Bruce area I invite you to join us at the 4th Annual Open House and Train show presented by the Grey Central Railway Club along with the Midwestern Chapter of the Canadian Association of Railway Modellers as they host their Day at The Clinics. This proves to be an informative day for both the beginner and expert and if you have the time it is well worth a trip. You will be able to meet others in the hobby local to your area, gain knowledge from the clinics being presented, and the best part—attend a local train show in the Grey-Bruce area. 11th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale

Well once again our Model Railroad Garage sale is just a distant memory. While the weather did not co-operate well this year, everyone that came found some treasures, made some new friends, and may have even learned a few tricks of the hobby that they were not aware of before.

Attendance was up even though the weather man forecasted gloom for the day. Plans for the 2010 event have already begun and more details will released in upcoming newsletters. If you wish to be a volunteer for the 2010 event please contact me.

I wish to thank all the vendors and buyers that came to make the show a success. A big heartfelt thanks also goes to our wonderful volunteers and all those that stayed to help clean up the event at the end—it was greatly appreciated. I think we got things put away in record-breaking time and in-between the rain drops—thanks again.

Also all the donations collected from the event go right back into it to improve it for next year. This year we added the 26’ x 12’ canopy for extra vendors to be able to sell outside when the bays filled. We also are slowly starting to purchase folding 6 foot tables to make the event more uniform in setup as well.

Hard to believe the it is under a month before our 11th Annual Model Railroad Garage sale will be here. Plans are all coming together and the last minute preparation is underway. For anyone that is still wishing a spot please contact Carol by May 1st to ensure a spot is reserved for you. Space is filling fast, so if you are even thinking of a spot, please drop us a line so that we are prepared.

This is a day that finds many modelers finding a treasure, meeting others in the hobby, and gaining ideas and information that may otherwise not be shared.

Take a moment to mingle as you have a coffee and muffin with a fellow modeler.

I have been talking with many of the vendors so far and it looks like there are many goodies coming to this years event. There are layouts that have been taken down and everything from the track to the figures are coming to the sale.

In addition to the great deals the vendors will be giving, there will be in-store specials and a couple of draws again this year.

11th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale

The 11th Annual Model Railroad Garage sale is coming up fast. Once again we will be hosting the event, a great day to find a treasure, meet fellow modelers and share your tips of the hobby with others. Space is filling fast so if you are interested in a space please let us know so that it can be reserved for you. Here are the details for this our 2009 event:

When: May 9, 2009 8:00am - Noon

Where: County Line Caboose (hosted in the large garage next door, goes rain or shine)

For those that may not be familiar with the event, here is a little about it. Each year we provide the space and the organizing for a model railroad garage sale. It is designed to be a modelers-for-modelers day. Anyone that has model railroad items of any scale are welcome to come and sell it. All we ask is that you have pre-signed up for a space. We will be taking space reservations until May 1, 2009. If interested in being a vendor please let us know as soon as possible, space is limited and given on a first come, first served basis.

This event is hosted free of charge to both vendors and browsers. We do have donation boxes out that day for those that like to donate to help cover some of the costs of making this event happen. There are free coffee and muffins during the event for all to enjoy.

So, mark the date on your calendar, contact us if you wish a space, and if you are coming to browse start your wish list now.

Reduce, Reuse Recycle

Did you know that if you are interested in some model railroad magazines there is a reduce, reuse, recycle area in the store. We welcome all magazine donations to this program and encourage anyone that sees magazines in this area of interest to them to help themselves.

This is a program that we have run for many years now and it works great. Magazines can be donated and given to someone else that will use the information from them. It is a win-win situation for all involved. The magazines find a new home where they are wanted and avoid the landfill sites.

Over the last little while there have been quite a number of donations and the boxes are full. If you haven’t checked it out in a while you should slide in and take a look. You may find one or two to take home with you.

Winter Is Here Again

This week has seen the weather turn ugly in some areas of the province, prompting us to remind our customers that on days that the weather is questionable, please call ahead to verify that we have made it to the store. The number there is (519) 364-1390. While every effort is made, there have been situations in the past couple of years where road closures have prevented us from getting to the store. If we are unable to get to the store due to weather we change the message on our machine to indicate this, so calling ahead is highly recommended during the nasty weather of the winter months.

Fall is Here Again

Hard to believe that the summer has come and gone once again. It has been a while since I have had the chance to sit down and write a newsletter. With summer coming to an end our little publication is expected to get back on track, being published every month or two.

It is often hard to keep on track during the summer months with ice cream in full swing, manufacturers slowing down on releases. But, now that fall is coming, new products will be coming in quickly over the next few months.

We have also been working to bring our on-line catalogue back up to current stock levels and pricing which sounds easier than it actually is. While we are now half way there, updates will continue to be made over the next month to finish off that job.

We have been keeping busy over the last couple of weeks making the final preparations for the 10th Annual Model Railroad Garage sale. This year we have a little more indoor space than last year which has left us with a few spots available on a first come, first served basis. If you have been thinking of signing up we need you to do it now. Due to the timing of the event, those that wish to sign up now please contact us by May 7, 2008, via either the e-mail or phone number provided below:

If you have items that you would like to sell and do not want to take a whole table, we will once again be running the community table where your items can be sold on your behalf. All that we ask is that the prices are clearly marked, and that you come back to pick up your items and cash no later than 2 weeks following the show. If you have items to drop off, please let us know. We will be around the store Friday evening prior to the sale setting up and you are welcome to make arrangements to drop off your items at that time.

As a reminder, this event is held next door in the big garage and goes ahead rain or shine.

If you are not familiar with our event, fellow modellers that have items that they no longer require, sign up and are given space to sell their items. All that we ask is that anyone who wishes to be a vendor sign up by May 7, 2008. This is a deadline date and space may fill up long before this. Setup for vendors is from 6:30am to 7:45am, sale opens at 8:00am sharp.

We host this as a "modellers-for-modellers" event. There is no charge to either vendors or browsers. We hope that this is a day that you get to meet others in the hobby, share ideas, make new friends and find some treasures along the way.

Come on out to support our 10th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale. You may be surprised at the treasures you find and the friends you meet.

As I write this I have a hard time believing that we are half way through January 2008. Time seems to be flying by so quickly. 2008 looks so far to be a great year where many new products are expected to hit the market. The time is coming near once again for the Bytown Trackside Guide to be released. We are now taking reservations for the 2008 issue. If you are interested in reserving a copy please let us know. Those that reserve (pre-order) their copy will receive $5.00 off the regular price. Estimated arrival for these is usually the later part of February. Pre-orders will be taken until February 17, 2008.

10th Annual Model Railroad Garage Sale

The details have been worked out and the flyers are in circulation. Our 10th annual Model Railroad Garage sale will happen this year on Saturday, May 10th. It will run from 8am until noon.

As a reminder, this event is held next door in the big garage and goes ahead rain or shine. Many vendors have already signed up to stake a claim to their table, so if you are thinking of being a vendor for this year's event please contact us so that your space can be reserved. Calling all Groups

At the beginning of the year we often have new modellers entering the hobby and wondering where they can go for further information. They are often looking for something hands on, as well as for others that enjoy the hobby and don't mind sharing their tips, secrets, and knowledge that they have acquired over the years. While as a model railroad store we offer assistance for our products, many people ask about different clubs and organizations in their areas.

We often steer people in the direction of the nearest club that we are aware of, but sometimes there are clubs and groups out there that are unknown to us. If you are a member of a group, please let us know. We keep a listing of all of these, and then try to match the person searching for a group to the one closest to them.

Model Railroading is the "World's Greatest Hobby". Please let us know about your group so that we can help you share this great hobby with others.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Reminder

With winter here, it is a good time to drop in and check out the new supply of model train magazines in the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle bins. This is a great way to get some free reading and save issues from the landfill sites. If you have magazines that you would like to donate to the program please let us know in advance of bringing them by to ensure that we have somewhere to put them if the bins are currently full.

Over the last few months there have been lots of donations to the program. We would like to thank all that have dropped their old issues off. Many have gone to new homes and made other modellers quite happy.
